R&R midway
North Star Grand Prix, formally know as Nature Valley, was this past week. I was super excited to be able to do this race, as I have never had the chance in past years. This was a 5 day race with 6 stages….OUCH
1 Prolouge
2 Road Races
3 Crits
I wish I would have wrote a recap of the race after each stage to let you know how I felt everyday, but looking back on it they all were painful but successful days.
The Prologue hurt as they all do, and that evening was a very short but technical crit that played in our favor. Bryan got into the break of the day with 2 others. He took all the sprint points, but the winner of the day totaled more points. Brayn was sitting 2nd in the sprint competition after day 1 with two races in.
Our plan as a team from then on was to help Bryan secure the sprinters jersey at the end of 5 days. It was a lot easier said than done because there were a few teams wanting to go for that jersey as well. We all had our roles each day to help make the plan a reality. After a lot of hard work from each of the guys, we ended up getting Bryan the sprinters jersey. We were super excited because we made a plan and executed it. It was not easy, but it was worth the reward.
I am super happy for Bryan, and the team as a whole. Being mainly a crit team in years past, this year is a transition period to more stage racing for both the riders and management. I think this is the first weekend all year that we showed the managers and other teams that we belong here. We are competitive and nobody should write us off.
I am already back in CO taking in some R&R after a hard first part of the season. I am super tired right now, but also super motivated for the rest of the season and 2016!
