VOS Recap

First stage race of the year is in books! A couple weeknds ago Conor, Drew and Myself drove up to Phoenix, AZ to race a 3 day stage race called Valley of the Sun Stage race. It's always fun to get some early season racing under the legs with no pressure. The race consisted of a 14 mile TT, a 96 mile road race and an hour crit. Since none of us are TT specialist or have any aero gear we knew we were not going to be going for the overall unless the RR had a big breakaway.

Friday afternoon in the middle of nowhere AZ we all pinned up our numbers and got underway. We all did some intervals during the race just to get warmed up for the next two days without digging so deep.

The RR had a small hill but usually not steep/long enough to break apart the field. The breakaway actually went on the downhill with Conor in the move of 15. Long story short Conor Cramped on the last lap. 90 degree day with only the 4 bottles we started with mad for a long hot day.

The crit was our platform to shine. I was able to get in the main brakaway of the day but got caught with 7 laps to go and Conor ended up 4th.

It was a good weekend of hard racing and a good gauge to see where the fitness is going into the year.

Now its been a couple weeks of hard racing and a local road race this sunday. It's a loop that I use for training very regularly so I am excited to race it. Calling for ran so it could be interesting.

So excited for the year!
